Brookings Register | Markel, Westwick named directors of SDSU universities

BROOKINGS – Lynn Sargeant, dean of South Dakota Condition University’s College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, has announced directors for two of the college’s universities.

Paul Markel has been named the founding director of the University of Psychology, Sociology and Rural Scientific tests even though Joshua Westwick ’01/M.S. ’03, is now the director of the College of Conversation and Journalism. Westwick replaces Lyle Olson, who retired in June as the school’s director.

“Both Dr. Markel and Dr. Westwick bring creativity and innovation to these management roles,” Sargeant explained. “In the interview course of action, they confirmed the knowledge and eyesight to direct the respective faculties to their comprehensive prospective.”

Markel comes to SDSU with 25 years of encounter in greater education and learning and has served as a department chair, interim dean and director of university plans funded by the Bush Basis and the U.S. Department of Education and learning.

In addition, he has mentored four graduate students to receive the Central States Interaction Association’s Pamela Cooper Award for Remarkable Graduate College student Instructing.

A primary scholar in the simple class, interaction education and learning and tutorial communication investigation communities, Westwick led the attempts for the SDSU standard system to the 2013 NCA Method of Excellence Award.

Becky Kuehl, associate professor in the School of Interaction and Journalism and coordinator of the girls, gender and sexuality experiments program, is the school’s associate director.

The College of Psychology, Sociology and Rural Studies is now South Dakota State’s sixth school. The Faculty of Style and design started out in 2015, the College of Performing Arts in 2017, the Faculty of Communication and Journalism in 2018 and equally the Ness Faculty of Administration and Economics and the School of American and International Research in 2019.
